The Holy Cross Student Theatre will present Almost Maine written by John Carini as its fall drama on December 2nd at 7:30pm and December 3rd at 5:00pm. The show will be performed at Holy Cross in the Blasius Family Auditorium on 587 Oronoke Road in Waterbury. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and senior citizens. They can be purchased at the door. The show is directed by Scott Schulte ’93 who has directed other HCST productions such as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) and Arsenic & Old Lace.

"Sean Lewis (Performing Arts Department Director) saw a production of this show. It really spoke to him," said Mr. Schulte. "I read it and came up with some design concepts. It is a magical piece set in a very realistic setting." 

Almost, Maine is a series of loosely connected tales about love, each with a compelling couple at its center, each with its own touch of sorcery. A woman carries her heart, broken into nineteen pieces, in a small paper bag. A man shrinks to half his former size, after losing hope in love. A couple keep the love they have given each other in large red bags, or compress the mass into the size of a diamond. These playful and surreal experiences are commonplace in the world of Almost, Maine, where on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night, the citizens of Almost -- not organized enough for a town, too populated for a wilderness -- experience the life-altering power of the human heart. Relationships end, begin, or change beyond recognition, as strangers become friends, and friends find love. The play is propelled by the mystical energy of the aurora borealis and populated with characters that are humorous, plain-spoken, thoughtful, and sincere.

The play features the talents of cast members, Cecelia Moisan ’23, Jaela Rivera ’23, Seth Glinsky ’23, Sofia Koury ’25, Jillian Guerrette ’25, Makendra Mowad ’25, Rafaella Bugaytsova ’25 and Arianna Mennillo ’26.  

Crew members include: Jordan Cronan ’23 (Stage Manager), Cailyn Gorman ’23 (Assistant Stage Manager), Sasha Khan ’25 (Assistant Stage Manager), Tyler Parks ’23 (Sound Technician), Mischa Telesford ’23 (Costumer), Bethany Gonzalez ’23 (Painting, Poster Artwork and Props), Chassidy Hicks ’23 (Props, Makeup/Running Crew), Jailyn DiPasquale ’24 (Costuming/Running Crew), Alison Smart ’26 (Lighting Assistant), Gia D’Amico ’25 (Running Crew) and Anaisa Rosado ’26 (Running Crew/Makeup). Mr. Sean Lewis serves as the producer.  

"I hope the audiences come out feeling a sense of hope," said Mr. Schulte. "There are many bittersweet moments in this play. Some may make people feel introspectively. I hope they experience something they can connect with."
