Dear Reader,

Welcome to the dedicated web pages of the Science Academy at Holy Cross! These resources—located in the dropdown at the upper-left of the page—serve to educate prospective and current Academy members and their parents on program curricula and information highlighting what our students are accomplishing. SciAc (as we call it) exists to highlight the principles that govern the Science Department, and whose goals are reflected therein:

Science is both the body of human knowledge and the endeavor to discover truth through rational and testable means.  The mission of the Holy Cross Science Department, and of all liberal arts institutions, is to teach students how to learn and communicate. The Department seeks to create well-rounded women and men of character by deterring apathy and facilitating student learning of and appreciation for the scientific endeavor, exposing them to the process of science, and helping them learn to think critically using evidence while gaining improved scientific skills and world literacy.  Blessed Basil Moreau posited that “the mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart,” and so the Department at Holy Cross also invites and encourages students to examine carefully and critically the interplay between the pursuit of scientific knowledge and their own faith formation.

The Science Academy is where that mission is put into action, supporting central Connecticut’s most intellectually driven and innately curious young men and women.

The program is rigorous but fulfilling and will set its members on a path toward success in whatever field they choose. In a world where a conquest of knowledge is that path, we are Crusaders.

Cheers,
Chris Ciarleglio `00
