A 9/11 Memorial Tribute: A Special Remembrance
Posted 4 days, 23 hours ago
We were honored to welcome Archbishop Christopher Coyne from the Archdiocese of Hartford. He and seven Priests from the local area led our Crusader family through Mass. Archbishop Coyne has a chance to meet our administration, teachers, staff and students at a reception following the Mass.
On September 11, 2024, Holy Cross High School and the City of Waterbury came together to host a 9/11 Memorial Tribute in honor of Father Francis E. Grogan, C.S.C. The event served as a poignant remembrance of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and paid tribute to the heroism and sacrifice shown by individuals like Father Grogan on that fateful day. The ceremony offered a space for reflection, healing, and unity as the community remembered and honored those who lost their lives.
Special guests include: The Honorable Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. ‘79, Mayor of The City of Waterbury, Fred Spagnolo, Chief of the Waterbury Police, Stephen Ayotte, ’72 Waterbury Deputy Fire Chief, Police Pipes & Drums of Waterbury, Police Color Guard, Fire Color Guard and Waterbury First Responders, Rev. James Sullivan and Monsignor Thomas Ginty ‘76.

Two of our “eternal seniors” from the Class of 1972, David Manzo & Jim LaBrecque kicked off this year’s Alumni Speaker Series. Jim and Dave, friends since day one of their freshman year at Holy Cross, explored how others mentored, challenged and nurtured them; one of which was Father Francis E. Grogan, C.S.C., who perished in the 9/11 attacks in 2001. They stressed the importance of good mentors and friends.
Off to a great start!! The Girls’ Soccer Team takes the win over Woodland 3-1. Congratulations on an excellent start to your season. ⚽️⚽️💚💛💚💛

When we are not pumping propane, we are taking steps to ensure safe underground tanks. All underground tanks are buried with a magnesium anode anode bag to prevent corrosion. These must be tested regularly (max. 3 years). If you rent a tank from us, we will take care of this procedure as part of your rental. If you own the tank, you should call to have it tested. If the tank starts to corrode it will cost $1,000’s of dollars to remove and replace.
FAQ’s
1. What is an anode bag?
- An anode bag is a container that holds a sacrificial anode, typically made of materials
like magnesium or zinc. It is used in cathodic protection systems to prevent corrosion of
metal structures.
2. How does an anode bag work?
- The sacrificial anode inside the bag corrodes instead of the metal structure it is protecting. This sacrificial corrosion process helps extend the protected structure’s lifespan by diverting corrosive forces away from it.
3. What is cathodic testing?
- Cathodic testing, also known as cathodic protection testing, is a method used to evaluate the effectiveness of a cathodic protection system. It involves measuring the electrical potential of a metal structure relative to a reference electrode to ensure that
sufficient protection against corrosion is being provided.
4. What are the consequences of inadequate cathodic protection?
- Inadequate cathodic protection can lead to accelerated corrosion of metal structures, resulting in structural degradation, leaks, and potential environmental hazards. It can also lead to regulatory non-compliance and costly repairs or replacements.
6. How often does the test need to be done?
- The test should be conducted upon installation, 12-18 months after the initial test, and then every three years.
4. Do I need to be home when the test is conducted?
- No. Our technicians will conduct the test and we will send you a copy of the report for your records.
