On September 30th, Holy Cross High School recognized students who attained their Seals of Biliteracy. Five students were acknowledged during our town hall meeting for their achievement. This included: Kelly Bonilla ’25 (recognized in Spanish), Ariana Flores-Montes ’25 (recognized in Spanish), Virginia Akide Ndunge ’26 (recognized in Italian), Antonella Livolsi ’26 (recognized in Italian). Recent graduate Fabrizio Cassetta ‘24 was recognized for his biliteracy in both Italian and English. Moreover, Tiago Oliviera ’26 was recognized for his biliteracy in Portuguese.
The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by the state, a school or school district to a student or a group of students that have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. The purpose of the seal is to recognize the excellence, hard work and dedication of students who put in the time to learn another language.
The Seal of Biliteracy motivates students to pursue biliteracy. It acknowledges abilities that students accomplish, which can especially look prominent to future employers. The seal also recognizes the linguistic resources that a student may have obtained in their home or from their community, and promotes bilingual pride.
Holy Cross High School encourages other bilingual students to take this exam. When they graduate, they will receive a symbol on their diploma that represents their state-recognized bilingualism. The languages they master and the acknowledgment they will acquire will also greatly benefit them in the future years to come. Holy Cross seeks to motivate students of all backgrounds who are bilingual to reap the awards of their diligence and prowess in the field of language.

When we are not pumping propane, we are taking steps to ensure safe underground tanks. All underground tanks are buried with a magnesium anode anode bag to prevent corrosion. These must be tested regularly (max. 3 years). If you rent a tank from us, we will take care of this procedure as part of your rental. If you own the tank, you should call to have it tested. If the tank starts to corrode it will cost $1,000’s of dollars to remove and replace.
FAQ’s
1. What is an anode bag?
- An anode bag is a container that holds a sacrificial anode, typically made of materials
like magnesium or zinc. It is used in cathodic protection systems to prevent corrosion of
metal structures.
2. How does an anode bag work?
- The sacrificial anode inside the bag corrodes instead of the metal structure it is protecting. This sacrificial corrosion process helps extend the protected structure’s lifespan by diverting corrosive forces away from it.
3. What is cathodic testing?
- Cathodic testing, also known as cathodic protection testing, is a method used to evaluate the effectiveness of a cathodic protection system. It involves measuring the electrical potential of a metal structure relative to a reference electrode to ensure that
sufficient protection against corrosion is being provided.
4. What are the consequences of inadequate cathodic protection?
- Inadequate cathodic protection can lead to accelerated corrosion of metal structures, resulting in structural degradation, leaks, and potential environmental hazards. It can also lead to regulatory non-compliance and costly repairs or replacements.
6. How often does the test need to be done?
- The test should be conducted upon installation, 12-18 months after the initial test, and then every three years.
4. Do I need to be home when the test is conducted?
- No. Our technicians will conduct the test and we will send you a copy of the report for your records.
