Our Holy Cross Students Meet Fellow Holy Cross Students from Brazil
December 4th, 2024
The Holy Cross High School community was thrilled to welcome students and faculty from our fellow Holy Cross school, Dom Amando Colegio in Brazil. It was a great opportunity for our students to meet peers and leaders from another part of the world who are dedicated to educating young minds in the Holy Cross tradition.
Holy Cross High School in Waterbury is one of 101 Holy Cross schools across the world; 23 are in the United States. The inception of the Congregation of Holy Cross dates back to the aftermath of the French Revolution when there was a dire need for education and spreading of the Gospel throughout France. In response, Blessed Fr. Basil Moreau, C.S.C. founded the Congregation of Holy Cross. He brought together a group of brothers, auxiliary priests, and sisters (for a certain period of time) to create a religious community modeled after the Holy family. With his sheer determination and unwavering faith, Moreau envisioned a community that transcended geographical boundaries and social barriers, spurring the members of Holy Cross to travel beyond France to the United States. The Congregation embarked on a mission to establish the prestigious University of Notre Dame in 1841.
Over the years, the Congregation of Holy Cross has grown into a widespread and internationally recognized religious community of brothers and priests. Operating in 12 countries worldwide, the community strives for the betterment of society and spreading of the Gospel by ministering to people from all walks of life. The Congregation's zeal for education, coupled with their commitment to serving marginalized communities, has earned them widespread recognition and reverence across the globe, making them one of the most influential religious communities in the world. Holy Cross High School owes its existence to Moreau’s vision and the leadership of the Brothers of Holy Cross.
