New Girls’ Soccer and Swimming & Diving Coaches Poised to Lead Student-Athletes

New Girls’ Soccer Coach
MaryKate Fahy Simoes’s coaching experience spans over 20 years. Most recently, she was the Assistant Coach for Holy Cross Girls’ Varsity Soccer (2023). Currently MaryKate is the Head Coach for CT- Rush Central Girls Soccer U16&U19 teams, placing 1st and 2nd in their leagues (2023) and was awarded CT- Rush Central Coach of the Year in 2023.
She holds a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation from Southern Connecticut State University and a M.S. in Psychology with a focus in Marriage and Family Therapy from Brandman University, the Chapman University System. While completing her M.S. degree in California she competed at the Semi-Professional level for the PASL, Soccer World, Sacramento winning 3 PASL Championships (2009, 2010, 2013).
Her mentoring by high-profile coaches has helped her evolve into the coach she is today. Her coaching philosophy focuses on the person first and the athlete second. She cultivates an environment that allows athletes to discover their potential, harness their competitive spirit, and expand their limits with confidence. By aiding her players in recognizing their strengths, abilities, and talents, she lays a foundation for mental toughness that helps them navigate challenges and stay driven towards their goals. Her training approach acknowledges the crucial impact of psychological and emotional aspects in athletic coaching. Blending her educational background with her vast experience, she offers effective and impactful guidance to her team.
Thomas B. Currier
New Swimming & Diving Coach
Thomas Currier has been involved in swimming since his early lessons at the age of seven. As a student, he was an all-state swimmer, Class L State Champion in the 100 butterfly, and Division 3 Collegiate National Qualifier.
Since then, he has served as a coach throughout Connecticut for the past fourteen years. He has coached youth, high school, and master swimmers. Tom is a Level 2 USA-certified swim coach and a certified teacher with a masters in Secondary Education. He is currently an eight-grade general science teacher at West Side Middle School.
It is Tom’s goal to create a safe environment where like minded athletes can work together towards a common goal. Swimmers will receive science-based training that is current and relevant to their goals and abilities. He promotes team unity, knowledge, and understanding of mobility and movement; along with nurturing the student-athlete as they mature.
