Ten Crusaders Receive Waterbury Unico 100th Annual Scholarship Awards

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, members of the class of 2023 attended the Waterbury Unico 100th Annual Scholarship Awards ceremony. These awards honor local Italian-American graduating high school seniors for their academic performance and community involvement.
Ten of the fourteen award recipients were Holy Cross High School students. They included:
- Maidson Brasche (Dr. Bart & Paola DePetrillo Memorial)
- Raeanna Byrnes (UNICO Achievement)
- Jenna Cavallo (Nicholas J. Parillo Memorial)
- Joseph Dane (Anthony Buccitti Memorial)
- Juilana Dane (Domenic & Maria Teresa Setaro)
- Jadan Izzi (Maiorano Family Memorial)
- Carly Lombardo (Marilyn Grace Memorial)
- Kendall Maisto (Marie-Anne Ponzillo Travisano Memorial)
- Ella Mancini (Dr. Bart & Paola DePetrillo Memorial)
- Jenna Tracey (Joseph Manganaro Memorial)
UNICO was founded in 1922 in Waterbury, CT by a group of professional Italian-Americans who were denied membership into a local service organization. They created UNICO to raise promote and preserve the Italian-American culture while doing charitable works in their community. The motto of UNICO is “Service Above Self”. Since then, UNICO has developed into the largest Italian-American Service Organization in the USA.
