The Holy Cross dress code is designed to reinforce neatness, professionalism, and is a reflection of the importance of academic endeavors and school tradition. It is our belief that our dress code will allow for a successful educational environment and will prepare students for future life experiences. Students and parents have made a decision to attend Holy Cross and as a result we expect all students to demonstrate professional pride and good taste in their appearance. Students who are improperly attired will be sent home to change, or their parent/guardian will be called to bring them a change of clothes. Students who frequently need to be reminded about dress code violations will be subject to disciplinary measures. The administration reserves the right to make final decisions about the appropriateness of any student’s appearance. Dress code will be reviewed and revised as needed.
Please be aware that Holy Cross branded (dress code approved) polos and 1/4 zips can be purchased through either:
- the Crusader Store
- items ordered through the Crusader Store will be delivered to Holy Cross, and you will be notified when they arrive for pick up.
- the BSN Spirit Shop
- the BSN Spirit Shop offers dress code approved items such as polo shirts and 1/4 zips and non-dress code approved items such as spirit wear for students, parents, alumni and Crusader fans! Items ordered through the BSN Spirit Shop will be delivered to your home.
While not required to purchase items through Land’s End, Holy Cross has created Dress Code Shop with them to make shopping for pants and skirts that meet our dress code requirements more convenient and efficient for families. Blazers
Acceptable: Girls may wear solid color or tweed blazers.
Dresses
Unacceptable: Dresses, of any kind, are not allowed.
Hair Styles
Acceptable: Extreme hairstyles are not acceptable, which includes but is not limited to, extreme coloring and designs. Students with hair style or color infractions will not be allowed to return to school until the infraction is corrected.
Makeup
Acceptable: Must be moderate and tasteful.
Outerwear
Unacceptable: No outerwear is allowed to be worn during the school day; this includes jackets and fleeces.
Pants
Acceptable: Girls may choose to wear dress/chino pants from a store of your choice. All pants must be solid color.
Unacceptable: Joggers, cargo pants, painter/carpenter pants, form-fitting clothes including skinny cut and ultra low rise pants are not allowed. Pants are not acceptable if they are drooping, baggy, low rise, tight or denim of any type. No rivets are allowed on any pants. Girls are not allowed to wear leather, corduroy, capris, leggings, jeggings, or yoga pants.
Piercings
Acceptable: Girls may have conservative piercings in their ears.
Unacceptable: No other visible piercings are allowed. This includes but is not limited to eyebrows, lips, nose, and tongue. Gauges are not acceptable. Covering prohibited items is not permitted.
Scarves
Acceptable: Fashion scarves, solid or pattern, are allowed with the appropriate button down collared shirt.
Unacceptable: Winter scarves are not allowed.
Shirts
Acceptable: Girls can wear either:
- a Holy Cross polo shirt purchased from the Crusader Store
- a polo shirt from your BSN team shop (The link to access your team's BSN team shop will be sent from your coaches. Only fall sports shirts are available right now.)
- a short-, long- or 3/4 sleeve solid color, button down, oxford style shirt, blouse, or dress shirt that can be purchased from a retail store of your choice.
Shirts must be long enough to be tucked in. If a t-shirt or cami is worn underneath a dress shirt, it must be solid in color with no print or writing.
Unacceptable: Fitted, skimpy, sheer, lace, sleeveless or tight blouses or dress shirts are not allowed. Dickies and other cut shirts/collars are not allowed.
Shoes
Acceptable: Girls must wear dress shoes, which may include flats or moderately-heeled shoes OR slip-on or laced, solid color Vans or Sperry’s. Timberland boots (or work boot styles) are allowed with pants only. Other ankle height boots are acceptable to wear with skirts. Pants must go over shoes and boots at all times.
Unacceptable: Shoes cannot be an athletic brand (which includes but is not limited to, Nike, Adidas, Jordan, UnderArmour, Converse, New Balance, Puma, Fila, Reebok, Avia). Sandals, slippers, moccasins, flip flops, crocs, backless or open toe shoes, rain boots, winter boots, duck boots, rubber boots, or athletic slides are not allowed.
Skirts
Acceptable: Girls may wear solid color skirts, which must have vertical pleats or be chino in style. Skirts may be purchased from a retail store of your choice. Skirts must be an appropriate and conservative length at all times. Our preferred vendor for skirts is Land’s End (School #900194861)
Unacceptable: Pencil, elastic, seamless (including seamless pleated), spandex, corduroy, lace, or leather skirts are not allowed. Skirts cannot be too tight or too short. Skirts may not have fringes, sequins, or other embellishments.
Socks/Stockings
Acceptable: Socks, nylons, or tights must be worn at all times. They cannot be patterned and must be solid color.
Unacceptable: Fishnet or patterned tights are not acceptable. Socks cannot be worn over the bottoms of pants.
Sweaters
Acceptable: Girls may wear solid color, long sleeve sweaters, sweater vests, or cardigans. Sweaters must be worn over a button-down collared shirt (not over a polo). Solid color pullover and zips/buttons are also allowed. Holy Cross branded sweaters and 1/4 zips purchased through the Crusader Store are permitted.
Unacceptable: Turtlenecks are not allowed. Sweaters cannot be two-toned or have patterns. Sweaters and 1/4 zips branded with other high schools or college logos are not permitted. Hooded or crew sweatshirts are not allowed. No full zip sweatshirts or jackets. Fleece is not allowed. Students may not wear t-shirts over their collared shirts.
Tattoos
Unacceptable: Students may not have tattoos visible at any times during the school day.
Belts
Acceptable: Boys must wear a belt at all times.
Blazers
Acceptable: Boys may wear solid color or tweed blazers to school.
Facial Hair
Unacceptable: Facial hair is not allowed; boys must be clean shaven every day. No mustaches, beards, or long sideburns.

Dress Code if a student is injured
It is the responsibility of the family to inform the Principal who will determine temporary modifications to the dress code. Depending on the injury, the dress code will vary, however the student will be asked to conform as closely to the policy as possible. Students who are not wearing a collared shirt or polo due to an injury must wear a Holy Cross top. Dress Code for Physical Education Physical education classes are academic classes and students must dress appropriately at all times. Proper physical education attire may include sweatpants, shorts (of reasonable length), sweatshirts, t-shirts, socks and sneakers. Tank tops and spandex shorts are not allowed to be worn to class.
