WEEKLY PLANNER School announcements and updates for the week of March 10, 2025 STUDENT LIFE Grandparents' Lunch We invite all grandparents to join us on Saturday, May 3 at 12:30pm for a special afternoon at Holy Cross High School! Come share a light lunch with your grandchildren, get a closer look at their high school, and enjoy some quality time together. Stay afterwards for our Arts on Oronoke show at 1:30pm, followed by our Festival of Music, featuring musical performances by alumni, students, faculty, and staff. A formal invitation will be mailed in April. To all current parents/guardians: We’d love for your parents (the grandparents) to join us for the Grandparents Lunch and our exciting day of events. Founders' Week Themes Founders Week, held on March 17-21, is a week to celebrate Holy Cross, our mission and our founding Fathers! The following days are dress up or prop themes. They are not just dress downs. You must follow the theme or you will be sent home to change: - Monday: “Dress like your favorite teacher”
- Tuesday: “anything but a back pack” - You can carry your stuff all day in something other than a back pack. Be creative, but leave the live animals and extra humans home; nothing motorized and it must fit through the front doors with appropriate branding. (contest winners)
- Wednesday: Mass with Class - Wear a suit or fancy dress as we celebrate our faith.
- Thursday: Rhyme without Reason - Lobster mobster, reader cheerleader, bumble bee, Christmas tree, etc (contest winners)
- Friday: Class Color Wars - You may dress down but you must wear a piece of clothing with your classes color:
- Seniors: Black
- Juniors: White
- Sophomores: Blue
- Freshmen: Green
- Faculty: HC spirit wear
Special Olympics Volunteer Opportunity Our Special Olympics basketball tournament and individual skills contest will be held March 22 from 8:00am- 3:00pm-ish. We are looking for volunteers (hopefully as many students and faculty/staff as we can) to work the skills event as well as games at local schools. Please complete the form if you can make it! There will be a meeting on March 20 to go over specifics. Chris Corbett 5K: Saturday, May 10th at Holy Cross High School The Chris Corbett 5K returns to Oronoke Road on Saturday, May 10th. To recognize the 10 year anniversary of the founding of The Christopher D. Corbett Memorial Fund, race participation is only $10 per person if participants register before April 4th. Registration includes a commemorative race day t-shirt. Sign up online using this link or complete the paper registration form and return with your $10 to Ms. Partin in the main office. Proceeds from the race benefit area Catholic schools including Holy Cross through the Fund's annual scholarship awards. The Penguin Plunge Take the plunge with team HC on April 5th! The Penguin Plunge is an event where teams dive into cold water to support the 12,000+ athletes of Special Olympics. This year, Holy Cross High School has a team. We will plunge on Saturday, April 5 in Fairfield, CT. Registration starts at 9:00am. and the plunge will take place at 11:00am. There is a $25.00 participation fee, and all proceeds will go to Special Olympics CT. Please consider joining us to support the athletes. COUNSELING Junior Parent College Information Night The Holy Cross Counseling Office staff will guide students and families through the college search process at the Junior Parent College information night on Wednesday, March 26 at 6:30pm at Holy Cross High School. Katherine Fainer '07, Director of Admissions at Seton Hall University will be our guest speaker. Topics will include: - creating a list of potential colleges
- what to expect from a college visit
- the college application process
- standardized testing
- much more.
This is a wonderful session for every junior family- those navigating the process for the very first time to those who have prior experiences. Holy Cross offers a wealth of resources for our students. We hope you will leave this session feeling a little less stressed about the upcoming year. Senior Scholarships Seniors should continue to check their email and drive for important information from Mrs. McGarrity and the Counseling staff regarding college acceptances and scholarships. The Christopher D. Corbett Memorial Fund Scholarship Please use this form to apply for the Christopher D. Corbett Memorial Fund Scholarship, named in memory of former Waterbury police officer and Holy Cross alumnus, Christopher Corbett '93. Applicants must be students currently enrolled in Catholic school who have been accepted into a Catholic elementary school or high school for the upcoming academic year. Applications should be submitted no later than noon on Monday, March 10. Please notify Holy Cross's Counseling Office so that the Corbett Foundation may contact them to obtain transcripts. Letters of recommendation may be left with the Counseling Office or emailed to [email protected]. Awards will be announced in April. Mario Generali Scholarship Rising 9, 10, 11 or 12th grade students who plan on attending Holy Cross High School for the 2025-2026 school year can apply for the Mario Generali Scholarship. For more information, please download this form. ADMISSIONS Sibling Crusader for a Day Do you have a student in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade who is the sibling of a current Holy Cross student? We would love for them to join your current student for our Sibling Crusader for a Day program on Friday, March 28 or Friday, April 11. Lunch will be provided. The festivities begin with a cocktail hour at 6:00pm, followed by a night of celebration. Guests are invited to dress in formal or cocktail attire as they enjoy an unforgettable evening of entertainment, great food, and lively conversation. Items Needed for our Silent Auction Please consider purchasing an item from our Amazon Wishlist for the Green & Gold Gala silent auction. In addition to the wish list, we could use some more items for our silent auction baskets. This includes: fine wine & spirits, glassware to go with both, gift cards to restaurants and stores, golf items...Or you can send in items that you think would be appropriate. Any item(s) would be greatly appreciated. They can be dropped off in the Main Office before March 14th with an ATTN to Donna Marino on Mondays through Fridays between 7:00am and 3:00pm. Volunteers Needed for the Gala We are also looking for volunteers to help our volunteers prepare for the event. Are you good at making baskets? Do you have a large car or truck to help transport the items? We are also searching for volunteers to work short shifts during the night of the event.
